A young man, Salisu Muhammed, has died after collapsing during a morning football training session at the Massalacin Edi football field in the Alikazaure community of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, leaving players and residents at the field in shock and bringing the training session to an abrupt halt.
Speaking to journalists, a teammate of the deceased, Abba Abdullahi, said Muhammed was actively participating in the training exercise when he suddenly collapsed on the pitch.
"It was a shocking death. He was playing football when he suddenly slumped. He was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead," Abdullahi recounted.
Family members, friends, colleagues and sympathisers who attended his funeral described him as humble, respectful and tolerant. They offered prayers for Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
Muhammed, who was popularly known as Achilata and resided in the Anguwan Rogo community, is survived by his parents, wife and four children.
He was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites at the Babale Cemetery in Jos.
