Prince Bola Oyebowale, FCA, ACTI, MMP, an Executive Board Member of the Osun State Internal Revenue Service (OIRS), has strongly condemned the recent attacks on members of the Accord Party in several communities across Osun State, describing the incidents as unfortunate, disturbing, and a threat to democratic values.
Speaking on the violent incidents reported in Akoda, Owode-Ede, Aisu, and Osogbo, Prince Oyebowale expressed deep concern over the loss of lives and the injuries sustained by several party members and supporters. He extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to those receiving treatment for injuries suffered during the attacks.
According to him, democracy thrives on freedom of association and political participation, stressing that every citizen has the constitutional right to belong to and support any political party of their choice without fear of intimidation, harassment, or violence.
Prince Oyebowale called on law enforcement agencies to carry out a thorough and impartial investigation into the incidents, urging security operatives to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice. He emphasized that justice must be served without bias, regardless of political affiliations or interests.
"The recurring incidents of political violence are unacceptable in a democratic society. No individual should be attacked or victimized because of their political beliefs or party membership. Security agencies must act professionally and ensure that those responsible for these attacks are held accountable," he stated.
He further appealed to political stakeholders, community leaders, and residents to embrace peace, tolerance, and respect for differing political views, noting that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of unity and security.
Prince Oyebowale reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles and peaceful coexistence, urging all parties involved in the political process to reject violence and allow the rule of law to prevail.
The attacks, which reportedly occurred in Akoda, Owode-Ede, Aisu, and Osogbo, resulted in casualties and injuries, raising concerns among residents and political observers about the need to strengthen security and protect citizens' rights ahead of future political activities in the state.
