The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Renewable Energy, Funmiso Babarinde, has predicted a major political realignment in Osun State ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, claiming that only members of the Ilerioluwa camp will remain in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during a media parley organized by the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) in Osogbo on Tuesday, Babarinde said the state's political landscape is already shifting in favour of Governor Adeleke.
“Before the August 15, 2026 governorship election, only the Ilerioluwa camp will remain as members of the APC. Other political gladiators will join Governor Adeleke’s coalition,” he stated.
Babarinde attributed the development to what he described as Adeleke’s achievements in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, youth empowerment and governance, arguing that these have strengthened support for the administration while weakening the opposition.
According to him, the Ilerioluwa political structure, long associated with former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, could become the only surviving bloc within the APC as more influential party figures align with Adeleke ahead of the poll.
He further claimed that internal disputes and the defection of key members have left the APC struggling to maintain cohesion in the state.
“Politics is about numbers and performance. The people of Osun have seen the difference in governance under Governor Adeleke over the last three and a half years. By election time, only Ilerioluwa loyalists will remain in APC while others will join the winning side,” Babarinde said.
He also called on supporters of the administration to remain united in order to sustain ongoing development initiatives across the state.
Highlighting achievements in the renewable energy sector, Babarinde revealed that the Office of Climate Change and Renewable Energy has distributed more than 10,000 solar lamps to rural communities to support children's education and improve access to lighting.
He added that Osun State recently climbed from 30th to 6th position among Nigeria’s 36 states in the Subnational Climate Governance Performance Ranking, describing the improvement as evidence of the administration’s commitment to sustainable development.
