Political Conviction Is Not Disloyalty To One's Hometown ... Setting The Record Straight On Engineer Asalu Ayodele David (Asler) Remarks In Ejigbo

The attention of the Asler Media Team has been drawn to the various reactions and misrepresentations surrounding remarks made by Engineer Asalu Ayodele David(ASLER) during the recent visit of the APC gubernatorial candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), to Ejigbo Local Government.

For the avoidance of doubt, ASLER remarks were neither a rejection of Ejigbo interests nor a slight against any candidate from the local government. Rather, they reflected a fundamental democratic principle: political support is determined by conviction, ideology, and party loyalty, not merely by geographical origin.

As a prominent stakeholder of the All Progressives Congress, Engineer Ayodele David Asalu has every constitutional and political right to canvass support for the candidate of his party. Supporting AMBO, the APC flagbearer, is therefore not only legitimate but also consistent with the responsibility expected of every loyal party leader.

To suggest that political actors must abandon their party’s candidate simply because another contestant shares the same hometown is to misunderstand the essence of partisan democracy. Political affiliation and personal conviction remain the foundation of every democratic contest.

More importantly, no fair-minded observer can question ASLER commitment to Ejigbo. Long before public office became a consideration, he distinguished himself through educational support programmes, youth empowerment initiatives, humanitarian interventions, and community development efforts that have positively impacted countless lives across Ejigbo and beyond.

Supporting a candidate from a different political platform does not amount to hostility towards one’s community. One can proudly identify as an indigene of Ejigbo while supporting a candidate believed to possess the vision, capacity, and platform best suited for the development of Osun State.

We therefore urge the public to disregard attempts to distort ASLER remarks for political advantage. The statement in question was a straightforward expression of political conviction and party loyalty, not a repudiation of Ejigbo identity or aspirations.

Engineer Ayodele David Asalu remains proud of his roots, committed to the progress of Ejigbo, and unwavering in his support for the candidature of Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
