The G5 is asking the core leaders and founding fathers of the progressive movement in Osun State, particularly in Ifelodun, Boripe, and Odo-Otin Federal Constituency, where Comrade Poju Odusola serves as the overall leader: Where are we going as Progressives?
Are we still practising the true ideology of progressivism in the APC? Are the remaining custodians of the progressive legacy of the Action Group (AG), the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), and the Alliance for Democracy (AD) still in charge of the affairs of our great party?
The G5 has consistently expressed its concerns over the process through which the APC House of Representatives candidate for Ifelodun, Boripe, and Odo-Otin Federal Constituency was selected. It was particularly worrisome that the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebanji (AMBO), publicly recognized the controversial House of Representatives candidate as the party's flag bearer during the inauguration of canvassers in Odo-Otin Local Government.
We therefore ask, "Do some people merely want us to present a candidate, or do they genuinely want the party to win the election?"
If the party truly desires victory, then Mr. Oluwadamilare Eniade Francis should not be presented as the party's flag bearer. However, if the intention is to lose the election, then the current decision should stand.
Let it be clear that the G5 has no personal grudge against Mr. Oluwadamilare Eniade. However, we believe there are serious concerns surrounding his emergence as the party's candidate. We also recognize that many loyal leaders have built and sustained this party over the years through genuine means and have earned the respect of members and the public. Our concern is not about personalities but about the process that produced Mr. Eniade and the dangerous precedent it sets. If this situation is allowed to stand, who will be the next victim?
This development sends a dangerous signal about the future of progressive ideology. Many respected party leaders believe that if this decision is allowed to stand, the progressive ideals upon which our party was built will continue to erode.
The G5 also wishes to ask: Is Baba Comrade Poju Odusola still the overall leader of the Progressives in Ifelodun, Boripe, and Odo-Otin (IBO) Federal Constituency?
The reason for this question is simple. During the lifetime of the late Baba G.O. Lawal, of blessed memory, decisions reached by the Elders' Caucus were respected, and no individual had the authority to overturn them arbitrarily. What has changed today?
It is unfortunate that in the federal constituency of our energetic and dynamic leader, His Excellency, Hon. Minister Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola, unresolved issues still remain while a controversial candidate has been presented despite the availability of many competent, experienced, and accomplished individuals within our constituency. This is not the progressive tradition we inherited from our forefathers.
The G5 also advises Mr. Oluwadamilare Eniade to address the concerns surrounding his academic qualifications. Age is still on his side, and within the next four years, he has every opportunity to complete his academic studies. He can take inspiration from Governor Ademola Adeleke, who earned a university degree later in life, proving that education has no age limit.
In conclusion, the G5 urges the leadership of our great party to listen to the voice of the people before the electorate speaks through the ballot box. Our findings indicate that many party members and supporters have resolved that after the election of Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebanji (AMBO) on August 15, no leader will be able to dictate where they should cast their votes. The unresolved issues arising from the primary election continue to generate dissatisfaction and could have serious political consequences if not addressed.
The G5 remains committed to the principles of justice, fairness, internal democracy, and the progressive ideals upon which our great party was founded. We believe that only by upholding these principles can the APC remain strong, united, and victorious.
