The immediate elder brother of the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, Prince Tunji Ogunwusi, has died at the age of 59, throwing the Ogunwusi royal family and associates into mourning.
Prince Tunji Ogunwusi was the second son of Pa Ropo Ogunwusi, father of the Ooni of Ife. He was a successful real estate entrepreneur and Chief Executive Officer of PrimeWatersView Holdings, with business interests in Lekki and Victoria Island, Lagos.
A graduate of Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan, the late prince was widely regarded as a key influence in the personal and professional journey of the Ooni of Ife. Family associates described him as a mentor whose business acumen, guidance and support contributed significantly to the monarch's success.
Beyond his business achievements, Prince Tunji was remembered as a humble and approachable personality. Those who knew him recalled his calm disposition and willingness to maintain close relationships with family friends and associates.
His death has also revived memories of another tragic loss within the Ogunwusi family — that of Prince Alexander Ogunwusi, an Ife-born UK-based lawyer who died in Hertfordshire in 2002 at the age of 42. He had been regarded by many within the royal family as a promising figure and a potential future Ooni before his untimely death.
Prince Tunji is survived by his wife, children, his father Pa Ropo Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, his siblings, and members of the Ogunwusi family of Agbedegbe Quarters and the Ojaja Royal Compound in Moore, Ile-Ife.
Tributes have continued to pour in from family members, friends and associates, who described him as a compassionate leader, accomplished businessman and devoted family man whose legacy will endure.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family. May his soul rest in peace.
