The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Branch, has appealed to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to approve the immediate implementation of the 2026 SSANU/Federal Government Agreement for non-teaching staff of the institution.
In a letter dated July 16, 2026, and signed by the Branch Chairman, Comrade Fajoye Hamzat Oyelere, and Secretary, Comrade Owolawi Olusegun J., the union said the agreement, signed on June 29, 2026, between the Federal Government and the Joint Action Committee of SSANU and NASU after extensive negotiations, contains significant improvements in the conditions of service, remuneration, and welfare of non-teaching university workers.
The union noted that although the agreement was negotiated at the federal level, its adoption by state-owned universities has become necessary to promote equity, sustain industrial harmony, and improve staff productivity across the university system.
SSANU urged Governor Makinde to provide the necessary financial support to enable LAUTECH implement the agreement without delay, stressing that workers are grappling with worsening economic conditions marked by rising inflation, transportation costs, food prices, housing, and healthcare expenses.
The association said implementation of the agreement would ease the financial burden on workers, boost staff morale, strengthen commitment to service delivery, and enhance teaching, research, administration, and community service in the university.
The union also pointed to the examples of Osun and Ekiti states, which it said had already committed funds to ensure the implementation of the agreement in their respective state-owned universities, urging the Oyo State Government to follow suit.
While acknowledging Governor Makinde's reputation as a worker-friendly leader, SSANU said it chose constructive engagement over agitation because of its confidence in the governor's commitment to workers' welfare.
The union expressed optimism that the governor would approve the immediate implementation of the agreement and provide adequate funding for its seamless execution, saying such a move would strengthen industrial peace and reinforce the cordial relationship between the state government and university workers.
