Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun on Thursday joined his colleagues at the meeting of the Southern Governors’ Forum where they looked at the current state of the nation and also reviewed progress of implementation of the decisions reached at the previous meetings of the group.
The Governors expressed satisfaction at the rate at which member states have been handling the enactment of the anti-open grazing law and encouraged states that have yet to enact the law to do so without any further delay.
On Value Added Tax (VAT), the governors unanimously endorsed the position and the court ruling that assigned its collection to state governments, just as it advocated full operationlisation of already-agreed regional security outfits and encouraged the outfits to meet, collaborate and share intelligence to enhance security of lives and property within the southern part of the country.
While reaffirming their earlier commitment to structural and fiscal federalism, the governors also restated their position that the next president of Nigeria “must emerge from the southern part of the country in accordance with politics of equity, justice and fairness.”
