The recent push by Oluwaseun Arewa to paint Governor Ademola Adeleke as the “best choice” for Ile-Ife’s future isn’t just misleading—it’s downright insulting to the intelligence of every thoughtful Ife indigene. This article tries to elevate mediocrity to a virtue while glossing over years of neglect and favoritism from the Adeleke administration.

Let’s set the record straight. Governor Adeleke has managed to construct a mere 3 kilometers of road in Ile-Ife, while his hometown of Ede has seen over 54 kilometers of roadwork. This stark contrast isn’t just unfair; it’s intentional. While Ede basks in modern infrastructure, dualized roads, and beautification projects, Ile-Ife—the heart of Yoruba civilization—gets left with just a promise to fix a single road near the palace. A promise, not an actual project.

And what about that palace road? Has Comrade Arewa forgotten that the surrounding roads were already built during the APC government? Just take a trip to Igbodo, Edena, or Itakogun road and see for yourself. What exactly is Adeleke offering? Empty gestures? Flashy groundbreakings that never lead to anything?

Let’s also clear up the confusion surrounding the Iremo road. That road is a federal one currently tied up in litigation, and anyone who knows the legal situation understands it can’t be touched until that’s sorted out. Yet, Adeleke’s supporters keep spreading this misinformation to take credit for something that isn’t theirs.

What real achievements has Governor Adeleke brought to Ile-Ife? Beyond the speeches and public appearances, what has he actually accomplished? The much-touted flyover (gada) in Lagere is still unfinished—half-hearted, superficial, and poorly executed. Is this the level of development we expect from governors in their own hometowns? Is this truly what Ife deserves?

Let me check in with my brother Oluwaseun Arewa—when was the last time you visited Ede? You really should go and see the stark differences for yourself. There are modern roads, well-planned public spaces, and organized development. Then come back to Ife or any other town in Osun state and look the people in the eye while claiming that Adeleke is a champion of equity. The hypocrisy is overwhelming.

What’s even more disheartening is the silence from the so-called political leaders in Ife. With an Ife-born deputy governor at his side, what have we actually gained? Where’s our voice? Where’s our fair share? Are we really okay with just getting the leftovers while others enjoy the feast?

The people of Ile-Ife need to wake up. Token gestures aren’t real development. A few kilometers of paved roads and promises to fix the palace road won’t erase years of deliberate neglect. In 2026, the decision we face isn’t just about party affiliations—it’s about dignity, fairness, and whether we want leaders who serve everyone or just their own interests.

Ile-Ife deserves so much more. And no amount of propaganda from hired writers can change that reality.
