Phyna Blasts Dangote Group Over Statement on Sister’s Tragic Accident

Big Brother Naija winner, Phyna, has strongly criticized the Dangote Group over its public statement regarding the accident in Auchi, Edo State, which involved one of the company’s trucks and left her sister, Ruth Otabor, critically injured.

The incident occurred less than a week after Ruth’s graduation, resulting in the amputation of one leg, with doctors warning that the other may also be lost. Witnesses claimed the truck driver fled the scene but was apprehended by a lecturer who pursued him. The truck’s number plate was allegedly removed before the vehicle was taken into police custody.

In its statement, the Dangote Group said senior officials and its insurance team visited the accident site, met law enforcement officers, and checked on the victim and her family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital. The company promised to cover Ruth’s medical expenses and provide compensation in line with its welfare policy, expressing sympathy for her condition.

However, Phyna rejected parts of the statement, questioning the company’s reference to her sister as “Mrs Ruth Otabor” and accusing them of attempting to create misleading narratives. She also condemned the use of photographs from the hospital visit on social media, calling it disrespectful and demanding that no cameras be present at any future meetings regarding the case.

The reality TV star also reminded the company not to overlook the motorcycle rider injured in the crash, describing his condition as “very critical,” and criticized what she saw as an inadequate sense of urgency in addressing the matter.
