Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church (IESC) Worldwide, has issued a warning concerning the ancient city of Ife and its traditional institution. In a recent video shared on the church’s official Facebook page, the cleric cautioned, “If Ife is not careful, traditional division will arise; a king will take over the Ooni of Ife.”
Ayodele explained that the Ooni of Ife, regarded as one of the most respected monarchs in Yoruba land, may face challenges to his authority if precautionary measures are not taken. He noted that brewing discontent and hidden rivalries within the traditional structure could erupt into open confrontation, sparking a struggle for recognition and legitimacy.
The cleric further warned that such division would not only affect the unity of the Ife kingdom but could also spill over into broader Yoruba cultural and political affairs. He urged stakeholders in the traditional institution to work toward reconciliation and harmony in order to prevent crises that may weaken their influence.
His revelation has attracted attention from cultural observers, who note that Ife, being the cradle of Yoruba civilization, plays a central role in preserving heritage and stability. Ayodele’s prophecy, therefore, underscores the need for vigilance to safeguard unity in the revered traditional stool.
