Outrage as VIO Officers Brutalise Driver, Forcefully Drag Him Out and Slam Him to the Floor in Lagos Over Broken Tail Light

Public outrage has trailed the actions of Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) after a video obtained by Lagos Reporters showed officials physically assaulting a driver and forcefully dragging him out of his car over a broken backlight.

The disturbing footage captures the moment the officers manhandled the motorist, slamming him to the ground in full view of shocked passersby. A female passenger inside the vehicle could be heard expressing disbelief as the VIO operatives hijacked the car, nearly hitting her in the process.

Eyewitnesses condemned the violent conduct, describing it as yet another example of the excesses of VIO personnel on Lagos roads.

Many residents have long accused the agency of unprofessional conduct, with some branding its operatives as “area boys in uniform” due to their frequent clashes with motorists.

The incident has reignited calls for sweeping reforms in the agency, with Lagosians demanding accountability and the protection of citizens against what they described as “state-backed thuggery.”

Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor reactions and provide updates on the fallout of this incident.
