The Delta State Police Command has announced a string of successful operations that have led to the arrest of several suspects involved in armed robbery, cultism, and drug trafficking. The coordinated efforts, which spanned across Asaba and its environs, were executed by operatives of the 'B' Division, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and the Eagle Net Special Squad (ENSS).
Suspected Armed Robber and Cultist Nabbed in Asaba
On October 1, a swift response to a distress call around the Bonsaac axis of Asaba resulted in the arrest of 21-year-old Amara Nwako, a suspected armed robber and cultist. According to the Delta State Police Command, Nwako, an indigene of Oko, allegedly robbed a female victim at gunpoint before being intercepted by police operatives led by CSP Edewor Akponegware of the B Division. A locally made pistol was recovered near the scene, and investigations have linked the suspect to the Arobaga secret cult. A manhunt is ongoing for his fleeing accomplice.
Eagle Net Squad Intercepts Major Drug Shipment
In a separate operation on October 2, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, in collaboration with the Office of the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking, intercepted a truck suspected of transporting illegal drugs. The vehicle, a truck bearing registration number 3BGT 18LG, was stopped by the team along a strategic checkpoint. The driver, Dennis Uruma, 52, from Igalamela Local Government Area of Kogi State, was arrested after a search revealed a large quantity of suspected illicit substances. Authorities are currently counting and analyzing the recovered drugs.
Three Suspected Robbers Arrested in Basket Market Raid
On October 3, officers of the Rapid Response Squad carried out a targeted raid at a suspected criminal hideout near the Basket Market area of Asaba. Acting on intelligence, the operation led to the arrest of three young men: Rabbi Godwin (25), Lucky Nanakumo (20), and David Igwe (19). A fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered at the scene. The suspects are currently in police custody, and further investigations are underway to locate other members of the gang and recover additional weapons.
Police Commissioner Reaffirms Commitment to Security
Reacting to the success of these operations, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for violent crimes, drug trafficking, and cult-related activities. He called on residents to stay vigilant and provide timely, credible information to law enforcement agencies.
“Our commitment to dismantling criminal networks and removing illegal firearms and drugs from our communities remains firm. We will continue to work with relevant agencies and community stakeholders to ensure Delta State remains safe,” the Commissioner stated.
The Delta State Police Command urged the public to maintain trust in law enforcement and report any suspicious activity through the appropriate channels.
