The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Muslim Graduates Association (LAUMGA), Osogbo Branch, on Sunday inaugurated its newly elected executive council, with Mr. Abduljeleel Owolawi (popularly known as O.J. Success) emerging as the new Chairman.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Owolawi expressed profound gratitude to the stakeholders and leadership of the association, particularly the National President of LAUMGA, for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Osogbo Branch. He highlighted the various achievements recorded under his leadership as the Interim Chairman, acknowledging the collective efforts of his team.
According to Owolawi, the National Leadership had earlier informed him of its plan to constitute a substantive executive for the Osogbo Branch. A Surah Committee, chaired by Dr. Moruf, was subsequently inaugurated to oversee the selection process. “The committee performed excellently in identifying capable hands to steer the affairs of our branch,” he noted.
Speaking on the branch’s vision, Mr. Owolawi revealed that LAUMGA Osogbo plans to establish an Islamic Centre and Empowerment Program, alongside a quarterly radio program aimed at promoting Islamic values and enlightenment within the community.
Delivering his goodwill message, the National President of LAUMGA, Engr. Muideen Haruna, commended the Osogbo Branch for upholding Islamic ethics and values in their activities. He encouraged the new leadership to foster reconciliation among members and to intensify efforts in bringing more LAUTECH Muslim graduates into the fold. “Unity and cooperation among members will ensure the continued growth and impact of our association,” he stated.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Sepeteri, Oyo State, Engr. Abdulhakeem Ademola Raji, urged Muslim graduates to strengthen their bonds of brotherhood and cooperation, emphasizing that unity among believers leads to greater opportunities and divine rewards. He reminded attendees that every act of service rendered sincerely for the sake of Allah will be duly rewarded, quoting relevant verses from the Qur’an to reinforce his message.
Representing the Global President of the LAUTECH Alumni Association, Hon. Engr. Olalekan Abdulrahman Badmus, FNSE, who is also the Executive Director, Marine and Operations, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hon. Lateef commended LAUMGA for its dedication and unity of purpose. He conveyed the Global President’s readiness to continuously support LAUMGA’s initiatives and assured members that his doors remain open to all.
The Chief Imam of Lamenco Central Mosque also prayed for the progress of the association.
Earlier in the day, the association’s delegation had paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Badmus at his residence in the GRA area of Osogbo, where discussions centered on strengthening collaboration between LAUMGA and the broader LAUTECH Alumni body.
The event, attended by dignitaries, scholars, and members of the Muslim community, marked a significant milestone in the continued growth and development of LAUMGA Osogbo Branch.
