A senior officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Appolos Dandaura, is under investigation over allegations of forged academic certificates.
Dandaura, a Commandant serving in the intelligence squad under the Commandant-General of the Corps, Ahmed Audi, is the subject of a petition filed with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The petition, dated December 23, 2025, was submitted by a human rights lawyer, Joseph Aliu.
Aliu accused Dandaura of presenting forged academic credentials to secure recruitment and benefit from irregular career advancement within the corps.
According to the petition, attachments include statements of results purportedly issued by the Nasarawa State College of Agriculture.
The petition also included a certificate from the University of Calabar bearing Dandaura’s name but without a matriculation number.
Aliu said the absence of a matriculation number is inconsistent with genuine certificates from the institution.
The lawyer described the allegations as involving “fake certificates and undue career progression” with serious public interest and national security implications.
He said integrity within law enforcement agencies is critical to public trust and operational effectiveness.
“Allowing officers to rise through the ranks on the basis of questionable credentials could undermine discipline and professionalism across the service,” the petition stated.
Aliu also invoked the Freedom of Information Act to request certified true copies of all academic credentials submitted by Dandaura at recruitment.
He further demanded certified records of Dandaura’s career progression and promotion letters.
The petitioner warned that failure to act on the request would be interpreted as obstruction and could lead to judicial proceedings.
The allegations come weeks after another NSCDC officer was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for certificate forgery and corrupt enrichment.
