The Women’s Wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State has appealed to the leadership of the party to urgently intervene in the controversy surrounding the recently conducted APC primary election for the Oriade State Constituency House of Assembly seat. The group, led by Chief Mrs. Omole Romoke Abigeal, called on the leadership of APC Agba Osun under the guidance of Baba Shuib Oyedokun, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, and other prominent stakeholders to ensure that the authentic winner of the exercise is officially declared.
Speaking on behalf of the women, Chief Mrs. Romoke expressed concern over alleged plans to manipulate the outcome of the primary election in favour of Professor Ifemidayo Akinmoladun despite the results reportedly obtained across the constituency. She urged the party leadership to direct the election returning officers to announce the candidate who genuinely secured the mandate of party members through a transparent and democratic process.
According to her, the primary election was conducted peacefully across all wards in Oriade State Constituency, with aspirants including Engr. Olufemi Akosile, Hon. Desmond Ojo, Hon. Tomilola Aloba, and Otunba Kunle Bolarinde actively participating in the exercise. She noted that party members turned out in large numbers to freely express their choice, thereby reinforcing the democratic ideals of the APC.
The women’s group maintained that the results of the election were properly collated, documented, and endorsed by party leaders and stakeholders at the local government level. They insisted that the integrity of the process must be protected and that any attempt to alter the outcome would amount to a betrayal of the trust reposed in the party by its members.
Chief Mrs. Romoke disclosed that the collated results showed Engr. Olufemi Akosile emerging as the clear winner of the primary election with an impressive 2,326 votes. Hon. Tomilola Aloba reportedly secured 1,193 votes, while Hon. Desmond Ojo polled 830 votes. She further stated that Professor Ifemidayo Akinmoladun garnered only 31 votes across the constituency, insisting that the figures reflected the overwhelming preference of party members.
Describing Engr. Olufemi Akosile as a tested grassroots politician with widespread acceptance among APC faithful and residents of Oriade State Constituency, the women noted that his outstanding performance at the primary election was a reflection of his long-standing relationship with the people. They emphasized that his victory represented the collective will of party members and demonstrated the confidence reposed in his leadership capacity and commitment to community development.
The APC Women’s Wing therefore called on respected party leaders, including former Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, Chief Bisi Akande, Baba Shuib Oyedokun, and other stakeholders to uphold justice, fairness, and internal democracy by ensuring that Engr. Olufemi Akosile is officially declared the winner of the primary election. They warned that any attempt to impose a candidate against the clearly expressed wishes of party members could create avoidable divisions within the party and undermine its chances in future electoral contests.
