Authorities in Kumasi are searching for a 38-year-old man, Victor Antwi, in connection with a fire that destroyed multiple homes in the Ahodwo High Tension neighborhood. The incident reportedly followed the end of a relationship with his 25-year-old girlfriend, Gladys Sarfowaah.
According to local residents, the breakup was preceded by repeated threats and alleged emotional abuse, with reports that Gladys had faced intimidation, including incidents involving a firearm.
The fire broke out while many residents—primarily men—were away watching a UEFA Champions League match, leaving the community vulnerable. Victor is alleged to have entered Gladys’ residence during this time and deliberately started the blaze. The fire quickly spread, causing significant property damage and displacing several families.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames, but not before substantial destruction occurred.
The Ghana Police Service has initiated a manhunt for Victor Antwi, who fled the scene. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in locating him.
