As political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded a significant boost with the defection of more than 150 members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The defectors were formally received at the APC campaign office in Alekuwodo, Osogbo, by the APC candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District in the forthcoming 2027 general election, Barr. Kunle Rasheed K-Rad, SAN, alongside other frontline party leaders and candidates.

Those present at the reception included the APC candidate for Osogbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Taofeek Kayode (ITK); the party's candidate for Olorunda State Constituency, Dr. Samuel Sanusi; and the APC candidate for Osogbo State Constituency, Hon. Abdullahi Ayodeji Olaiya.

The defectors, led by Mr. Faruk Isa, cited alleged marginalization within the ADC as the major reason for their decision to dump the party. They specifically accused the Omoluabi caucus, which joined the ADC alongside former Osun State Governor and former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, of sidelining many loyal members and denying them equal opportunities within the party structure.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Mr. Faruk Isa thanked the APC leadership for the warm reception accorded to them and assured party leaders of their unwavering commitment to working for the success of the APC in the forthcoming governorship election.

Receiving the new members, Barr. Kunle Rasheed K-Rad, SAN, described their decision to join the APC as a major political development and a clear indication of the growing acceptance and popularity of the party across Osun State.

He applauded the defectors for taking what he described as a courageous decision to embrace the progressive family, assuring them that the APC remains an inclusive platform where every committed member would be given equal opportunities and treated with fairness and respect.

According to him, the continuous influx of members from opposition parties demonstrates the confidence that the people of Osun State have in the APC and its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).

Barr. Kunle Rasheed urged the new members to remain loyal, united, and committed to the ideals of the APC while mobilizing support across their various communities to ensure a decisive victory for the party in the August 15 governorship election.

He described Oyebamiji as a seasoned technocrat, accomplished administrator, and visionary leader whose wealth of experience in public service has adequately prepared him to provide purposeful leadership for Osun State.

The APC chieftain further appealed to the people of Osun State to vote massively for AMBO, expressing confidence that his administration would deliver inclusive governance, accelerated development, improved infrastructure, youth empowerment, economic growth, and policies that would positively impact the lives of all residents.

The event concluded with enthusiastic chants of solidarity from party members and the new defectors, who pledged to mobilize grassroots support for the APC as the countdown to the August 15 governorship election continues.
