The Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, organized a colorful endurance trek across major parts of Osogbo to commemorate Amotekun Day 2026, marking the international recognition of the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun) for its contributions to combating crime and strengthening community security across the South-West region of Nigeria.
The endurance trek commenced from the Osun Amotekun Corps Headquarters, Powerline, Osogbo, and proceeded through Old Garage, Oke-Fia, Lameco, Ring Road, before returning to the Corps Headquarters. The event attracted principal officers of the Corps, management staff, operatives, security stakeholders, community leaders, journalists, and members of the public.
Speaking during the event, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, emphasized the critical role of community participation in combating insecurity, violent crimes, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and other criminal activities threatening peaceful coexistence.
According to the Corps Commander, the successes recorded by the Osun Amotekun Corps since its establishment have been largely driven by the confidence and cooperation of the people. He stressed that security remains a collective responsibility and appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence that would assist security agencies in preventing crime before it occurs.
He noted that Amotekun remains a grassroots-oriented community policing initiative designed to complement conventional security agencies by maintaining close relationships with local communities. He stated that the Corps has strategically deployed operatives across communities and locations identified as vulnerable to criminal activities, assuring residents that the agency remains vigilant and committed to protecting lives and property throughout Osun State.
High Chief Omoyele reaffirmed the Corps' unwavering determination to sustain proactive security operations, improve intelligence gathering, and strengthen collaboration with other security agencies to ensure that criminal elements have no hiding place within the state.
He further expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, for his continuous support, visionary leadership, and commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the Osun Amotekun Corps.
The Corps Commander also extended gratitude to members of the Osun State Executive Council, the Osun State House of Assembly, the Chairman of the Osun Amotekun Corps Board, AIG Wale Abbas (Rtd.), the Field Commander, Dr. Capt. Olusoji Benedict Akanni, members of the management team, commanders, officers, and operatives across the state for their dedication, professionalism, loyalty, and sacrifices in safeguarding lives and property.
He equally appreciated journalists for their responsible reportage and acknowledged the unwavering cooperation of sister security agencies whose collaborative efforts continue to enhance peace and security across Osun State.
The endurance trek formed part of activities aimed at promoting physical fitness, operational readiness, teamwork, discipline, and stronger engagement between the Corps and the communities it serves.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the vision of the Osun Amotekun Corps as a dependable community-based security outfit dedicated to ensuring peace, safety, and the protection of lives and property throughout Osun State.
