A pregnant woman has reportedly been killed by suspected ritualists in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The victim, whose identity has not been confirmed, was said to have been killed on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Temidire, a rural community in Egbejila in Ilorin.
She was gruesomely murdered and dismembered in a manner that raised suspicions that she must have been killed for ritual purposes.
Eyewitnesses said her discovered body bears similarities to a recent ritual case in Ilorin involving a self-styled cleric, Abdulrahaman Bello, who killed Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student of Kwara College of Education, Ilorin, for body parts, according to Daily Post.
Residents of the area said the deceased, whose husband is a trader in agricultural chemicals and equipment in a border town in Kwara North, had been alone at home on Wednesday night.
A resident of the area was quoted as saying, “Eyewitnesses alleged that she was expecting a visitor that evening and was seen purchasing bottles of beer and plates of pepper soup before retreating indoors.
“By dawn, suspicion arose when a neighbour reportedly confronted a man, believed to be her husband’s younger brother, leaving the house with a black nylon bag.
“The liquid trail, on closer inspection, turned out to be blood. Alarm was raised immediately, drawing other members of the community.
“Horrifically, body parts suspected to belong to the victim, including an arm, a leg and entrails, were later discovered in nearby bushes but the head was nowhere to be found.”
It was reported that the discovery of her body has triggered panic in the community, with many suspecting ritual motives and inflaming long-standing ethnic suspicions among residents.
Police sources confirmed that the case has been transferred from the Budo Nuhu Divisional Headquarters along Airport Road to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Ilorin for further investigation.
However, SaharaReporters’ efforts to confirm the incident from the Kwara State Police Command failed as the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Ejire Adeyemi-Toun, did not answer calls made to her mobile phone number at the time of filing this report.
