The Osun Amotekun Corps has successfully reunited a woman who was found wandering along the Ogii/Gbongan Road with her two young children with her family, less than 24 hours after she was rescued by operatives of the Corps during a night patrol.
The woman and her children, aged approximately three years and one year, were rescued by Amotekun operatives on patrol on Thursday night after they were found wandering along the road at a late hour.
Following the rescue, the woman and the children were taken to the headquarters of the Osun Amotekun Corps in Osogbo, where they were provided with care and attention while officers commenced efforts to establish their identity and locate their family. The woman who refused to talk for hours but only chatted about unknown wordings was referred to the Amotekun desk of Gender,family and people with disabilities units for investigation.
The family units with their expertise were able to work something out through fragments information obtained that proven useful to the investigation by tracking her family to Ede.
The husband of the woman one Olawale Muideen, who was said to be out of the town was represented by his younger brother, one Mutiu Sodiq, and his first son, one Muideen Aliyullah, came to identify the woman at Amotekun headquarters, Osogbo.
Speaking during the reunion, Mr. Mutiu Sodiq, representing the family expressed appreciation to the officers and men of the Osun Amotekun Corps for rescuing the woman and her children at that odd hour and ensuring their safe return to the family. He praises the ability of the Amotekun operatives on how they could obtain useful information from the woman despite her unstable mental condition and subsequently traced her residence in Ogberin area, Ede thus demonstrate the Corps' investigative experience and commitment to protecting members of the public.
He also commended the Corps for the humane treatment and care provided to the woman and the children throughout the period they remained in its custody. He explained that the family had been searching for the woman for days after she failed to return home with the children.
The Corps Commander, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, commended members of the public and the media for their support in disseminating information about the rescued woman after the incident was announced on Thursday night.
He stated that protecting lives and property remains one of the core mandates of the Osun Amotekun Corps, adding that the operatives who rescued the woman and her children during the late-night patrol deserved commendation for their vigilance and prompt intervention.
According to him, the circumstances surrounding the rescue underscored the importance of ensuring the safety of vulnerable persons, particularly young children who may be unable to protect themselves.
The Corps Commander said: “It is the mandate of the Corps to protect the lives and property of residents of the state. It is commendable that our officers on patrol rescued this woman and her children who were wandering along the road at such a late hour.”
Dr. Omoyele also urged families to promptly notify law enforcement authorities whenever a relative goes missing,not to wait unnecessarily before reporting missing persons, particularly children, vulnerable adults and persons experiencing mental or psychological difficulties.
The Field Commander of the Corps, Dr. Olusoji Benedict Akanni, described the successful identification and location of the woman's family within 24 hours as a significant outcome of the command's coordinated efforts. He added that the officers carefully worked with the limited information obtained from her and eventually traced her family to Ede.
The Osun Amotekun Corps has therefore successful handover of the woman and her two children to their family following the completion of the investigation. The Corps reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society, responding promptly to emergencies and working with members of the public to ensure the safety and security of residents across Osun State.
The command also encouraged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting cases of missing persons and other situations that may pose a threat to life and safety.
