The Chairman, management and people of Osogbo Local Government have received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of Alhaji Fatai Oyedele Diekola (Jagun Aso), an illustrious son of Osogbo, seasoned grassroots politician and former Chairman of Osogbo Local Government, who died yesterday.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of the council, Hon. Onibonokuta Mufutau Saheed, the council described the late Jagun Aso as a pathfinder, mentor and bridge-builder, whose life was devoted to service, party loyalty and the advancement of Osogbo.
Hon. Onibonokuta noted that Alhaji Diekola played a defining mentoring role in his own political journey, guiding and supporting him from Ward 11 in Osogbo Local Government, through the ranks of party activities, to eventually becoming Party Chairman in the council area and later Chairman of the Local Government.
He described the late Jagun Aso as a man who believed strongly in grooming leaders from the grassroots and strengthening party structures.
According to the Chairman, the late Alhaji Diekola distinguished himself by his political sagacity, calm leadership style and principled character, always putting Osogbo first in all his engagements.
His tenure as council chairman and his wider political engagements were marked by inclusiveness, discipline and commitment to community development.
“Jagun Aso was a leader of leaders, a dependable elder and a man whose counsel carried weight. He lived a life of impact and left behind a legacy of mentorship, loyalty and service to Osogbo,” the statement said.
The Osogbo Local Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the Diekola family, political associates and the entire people of Osogbo over this painful loss.
The council prays that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, rewards his good deeds and grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus
